Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used to treat various medical conditions in both humans and animals for over 3,000 years. At Alexander Equine Veterinary Services we are pleased to offer equine acupuncture to our clients as a treatment option for several conditions including musculoskeletal disorders, back pain, and to minimize the side effects of chemotherapy.

As stated above, we typically offer acupuncture as a complementary treatment option and is used in conjunction with other treatment options such as rest and medication.

Our veterinarian acupuncturist will perform a full examination and review your horse’s medical records and symptoms before recommending treatment. A diagnostic acupoint exam is then conducted to identify particular acupoints that may be the source of pain or distress.

IRAP

Here at Alexander Equine Veterinary Services, we are pleased to offer our patients IRAP therapy to help them in their recovery.

IRAP therapy is used to treat osteoarthritic conditions that can cause lameness in horses. For IRAP therapy, we take your horse’s own blood to help the healing process. We extract good proteins from that blood and inject it into the affected joint. The therapy works by amplifying the amount of anti-inflammatory and regenerative proteins found in the blood, helping the joint heal more quickly and efficiently.

IRAP therapy works well because it uses natural anti-inflammatory proteins. There are fewer side effects or a risk of an allergic reaction since we use your own horse’s blood. It is also quite effective.

We are so pleased to be able to offer this great therapy to help our patients heal. If you have any questions about our procedures, feel free to contact the office at (503) 648-1885.

PRP

Here at Alexander Equine Veterinary Services, we are pleased to offer our patients PRP therapy to help them in their recovery.

PRP therapy is short for platelet-rich plasma therapy. It involves drawing blood from a patient, though unlike the IRAP therapy process, in this case we want to isolate the platelets from the blood, making platelet-rich plasma. Once this blood is applied directly to an injury, it speeds up the healing process. It has been used successfully for skin, bone, and soft-tissue injuries. It is also great for wounds that are having trouble healing.

PRP works by using a patient’s own blood so that there is less of a chance of a reaction. It also uses a sterile, closed system because the safety of our patients remains most important.

We are so pleased to be able to offer PRP therapy to help our patients heal. If you have any questions about this procedure, feel free to contact the office at (503) 648-1885.

Endoscopy

Here at Alexander Equine Veterinary Services, we are proud to offer endoscopy services for our patients.

We are constantly working hard to give our patients the very best care veterinary medicine has to offer. We use the latest equipment and offer our patients new and exciting ways to diagnose and treat problems.

For this reason, we are really proud to offer endoscopy services. An endoscope is a small, flexible tube that we are able to insert into your horse’s body to help us diagnose and treat various issues. There is a camera on the end, which allows us to view inner parts of your horse in ways that we never could before. We are even able to take video so that we can watch it and keep it to monitor a patient’s condition.

The most common thing we use endoscopy for is monitoring a patient’s upper respiratory tract. We can look at the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, lungs, and much more. We also use it commonly to investigate stomach issues and can also use it to examine the uterus, urethra, bladder, cervix, and much more.

Endoscopy is used to diagnose and monitor the treatment of many diseases and problems including laryngeal hemiplegia, pharyngitis, sinusitis, infections, choke, ulcers, uterine infections, cysts, foreign bodies, and much more.

Don’t hesitate to contact us at (503) 648-1885 if you have any questions about endoscopy or would like to schedule a consult.
